NORDIC DIALOGUES

Nordic Dialogues aims at broadening the spectrum of solutions to some of Brazil’s current challenges by engaging and inspiring Brazilians through dialogues on perspectives, experiences and expressions from the Nordic region.

Nordic Dialogues is a 3 year project aiming at creating joint Nordic Branding that helps generate change in Brazil. Focusing on an annual theme, the Nordic Dialogues is including both policy and culture as mutually reinforcing elements that can strengthen the understanding and dissemination of Nordic perspectives in Brazil. The policy track consists of debates, interviews, meetings with counterparts and seminars, while the cultural track features theme-related exhibitions, workshops and performances. Nordic Dialogues is a 3 year project aiming at creating joint Nordic Branding that helps generate change in Brazil. Based on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the annual themes of the Nordic Dialogues relate to specific Sustainable Development Goals. The first Nordic Dialogues in 2018 focuses on gender equality. The theme for Nordic Dialogues 2019 is trust between institutions and individuals and Nordic Dialogues 2020 will centre on responsible and sustainable growth.

 

 

NORDIC DIALOGUES 2018 ON GENDER EQUALITY
Annual Theme: Despite improved conditions for women in health and education, unequal pay remains a persistent issue highlighting the importance of increasing female economic opportunities and earnings for further poverty reduction. Brazilian women still face a significant discrepancy in political representation and violence against women is widespread throughout the country.

 

The Nordic region is world leading with respect to gender equality and representation of women in politics. Gender equality contributes to the advancement of social and professional life, and to the strengthening of the economy of the Nordic region.
Overall Objectives: Sharing Nordic experiences on establishing policies and frameworks promoting gender equality

 

 

Result Areas: Build a reputation of the Nordic region as a reference in gender equity, positively inspire Brazilian way of thinking on gender and facilitate long-term cooperation between Nordic and Brazilian institutions.
Target Groups: Youngsters, policy- and decision makers and businesses
Activities: Public conferences, congress event, university dialogues, film screenings, readings of Nordic literature, exhibitions and social media campaign.

 

Partners: Project partners include the Nordic embassies in Brasilia, the Danish Cultural Institute, Brazilian National School of Public Administration, Innovation Norway, UN Women, Nordic consulates in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and Nordic chambers of commerce.

 

 

Project Management: Chaired by the Embassy of Norway, the Steering Committee is open to all project partners and responsible for oversight of progress and approval of project group proposals. Project groups (political track, cultural track, Nordic Dialogues 2019, communication) are open to all project partners with the aim of preparing and implementing project activities.
Project Financing: Total project budget of EUR 100,000 of which the Nordic Council of Ministers has granted EUR 33,000.
